It all begins with a novel by George Orwell, Burmese Days. From this declaration of love for exoticism, Jude Junior and Kaptain Karma created a band of the same name. Their idea of travel is one experienced from behind a computer screen, fuelled by audio and visual snapshots and forbidden dreams.
Across three LPs of experimentation, the duo draws on influences from every direction: from 1980s African pop to New York math rock and Japanese synthpop. They retain a rock identity throughout a career shaped by strong concepts and structuring ideas, conceived almost as exercises whose constant outcome is a sense of dreamlike exploration.
The Burmese Days meet Laurent Auffret at la JIMI, a meeting that leads a few years later to their first collaboration with The Queen Is Dead Records.
For their first album produced with The Queen Is Dead Records, "The Great Depression of Sutra" (2021), the duo - now expanded into a four-piece - takes on a new challenge: bringing to a close a story that began as a comic book. The project combines the fury of rock with epic orchestrations, telling what initially appears to be a conventional superhero story but gradually reveals itself as a story about humanity, its downfall and its renewal. Nihilistic and therefore deeply humanistic, this new kind of rock opera is more adventurous than ever, questioning the relationships between art forms, people and Time.
A few months later comes "It Took Time", a composite album bringing together a wide range of material: the final half-hour track from "The Great Depression of Sutra", divided here into five pieces, live versions, early versions, a cover by Ari Birgisson and a remix by Blue Chill.
The Burmese Days then continue working independently, moving towards more minimalist forms and a stronger electronic focus with "La Théorie des foules", followed by "Post post vérité".
In 2026, the project evolves again with the release of the remix album "The Remix Days", marking the return of The Queen Is Dead Records for the final production stage.
