Arinbjørn Birgisson began playing piano at the age of 8 and started recording his own music a few years later. In Reykjavík, he soon formed a musical partnership with drummer Sigvald Hansen: together, they recorded their first demos at home and approached local labels, without success. Their collaboration continued until Ari left Iceland to study in France in 2018. He eventually returned to Iceland in March 2020, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the autumn of 2020, 3 To The Third Music, an independent label based in Namur, Belgium, was preparing a compilation of instrumental music. Dr Olive, who runs the label, introduced Ari to Laurent Auffret, sensing a certain artistic affinity between them. Ari and The Queen Is Dead Records then worked together on "Hljóðaklettar", which was included on the compilation, released on December 21, 2020.

This first collaboration continued with "À mon seul désir", a cover of a song by The Burmese Days, followed by the beginning of work on a first album.

In April 2024, 3 To The Third Music once again invited Ari and The Queen Is Dead Records to contribute to a new compilation. This time, they collaborated on "Það hefur sál", working together on both the music and the video. The track appears on "Does A.I. Dream Of Electronic Music? - Part IV: A Retro-futurist Time Warp To The XXth Century".
