Untearable Roots
Mounir had a band, The Unplugged Brains, but that wasn’t enough for him!
While working on "No Way Back", the debut album of his band, Mounir kept composing, enriched by everything he learned from that first production experience. He felt the urge to explore new horizons — to go further.
Even before The Unplugged Brains released their album, Mounir had already completed the writing and recording of a solo album. That meant the final stages of production happened all the faster.
His intimate piano-vocal tracks are reminiscent of Radiohead ("A Moon Shaped Pool" era), and there’s no denying his Bowie-inspired influence with a few surprising, airy pop songs.
With The Unplugged Brains, Mounir aimed for epic, long, experimental tracks — like multi-stage rockets designed to launch the listener into orbit. With his solo project, Untearable Roots, the goal is entirely different. His solo album "Pieces of Life" takes the listener in the opposite direction — introspection.
The songs are short, designed to hit "repeat". They sound more stripped down, giving each instrument as much space and presence as possible — in every sense of the word. In this project, Mounir draws from his Super 8 memories, brilliantly transforming them into music.
In autumn 2022, Mounir began working on a new Untearable Roots album with The Queen Is Dead Records. But things never move fast enough for him — and that new album ultimately became his third, as he composed, recorded, and arranged another project entirely on his own: "Still in My Mind", released on March 28, 2024.
While he led the project solo, he still had support from Guillaume Wessels (guitarist of The Unplugged Brains) and special guests like Doctor Renton and Roxy.
