Not much is known about TAPALA.
What we do know is that the duo takes its name from an old nocturnal ritual said to have originated in L'Aber-Wrac'h, on the coast of Brittany's Finistère region, and that TAPALA is believed to be an acronym derived from it.
We also know that the songs are written in French, and that musically the band moves between pop-rock, new wave, folk and synth-pop.
Daho and The Cure have spent a lot of time in TAPALA's Walkman. So have New Order, Elliott Smith, and many others that listeners may (or may not) recognize.
Love, heartbreak, friendship, the sea, cinema, artists, memory and the passing of time are recurring themes in TAPALA's songs. The duo takes its time when it comes to recording them, but still has plenty of pop songs waiting in the sea spray.
In the winter of 2023, TAPALA timidly knocked on the door of The Queen Is Dead Records to present its rich catalogue of songs. Drawn to the duo's universe, Laurent Auffret first undertook the restoration, refreshing and homogenization of older recordings whose original multitrack files had been lost along with a dying hard drive. Thus was born "La lumière".
For the next project, the conditions were finally in place to start from scratch and build the record exactly as it had originally been imagined. The ambitions were not only met, but exceeded.
The seven songs of the new EP "Omnia", the result of this long-term collaborative effort, are released on June 21, 2026, with the arrival of summer.
